ERC has systematically begun to manage its stock of knowledge as
one of the strategies to support its expansion. Reuse of existing
knowledge should help reduce lead-time and costs, that increasing
productivity and quality. Sharking knowledge is pursued by ERC under
Knowledge Management (KM) label.
Key dimensions of KM have been internal and external knowledge
sharing. Internal knowledge sharing programme typically aim at making
the existing and future ERC business work better, faster, or cheaper,
by arming front-line staff with higher quality, more up-to-date,
and more easily accessible tools and inputs. ERC has started offering
knowledge-sharing services so that clients can have direct on-line
services to the company's know-how.
ERC's KM is supported by:
· Human Resources Management (in-house and external training,
skills development through seminars and workshops, constantly
renewing associates and back-up support staff)
· Technology (information systems, databases, communication
technologies, web technologies)
· Equipment (groupware, whiteboards, flexible product system)
· Tools (knowledge maps, computer-based performance)
· Physical structures (resource centers, learning centers,
strategy rooms)
ERC has already made a strong corporate commitment to information
and communication technology (ICT) and geographical information
system (GIS), which is and will be an integral part of every business
process in the company.
